24 track compilation on the French Music Memoria label by the legendary African-American bass/baritone singer (and film & stage actor, athlete, political activist, etc). - featuring many of his best-known recordings, including "Old Man River", "Balm In Gilead", "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot", "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen", etc. He began his stage and singing career in the 1920's, made many recordings over the following decades, and appeared in a number of films including James Whale's 1936 remake of "Showboat". He came into increasing conflict with the US authorities over his anti-racist stance and his links with communist Russia.
