Mignon’ was one of the 3 most successful French operas (with ‘Carmen’ and Gounod’s ‘Faust’), during the half-century after its première in 1866, and it remains the masterpiece of Ambroise Thomas. This, the work’s most recent recording, comes from live performances at the Théâtre Impérial in Compiègne during October 1996, given by an excellent Francophone cast, and here re-released in an attractive presentation by ACCORD, with full libretto and English translation.
