A long overdue reissue of Black Session - Yann Tiersen’s 5th album, released originally in 2001, but deleted within a year - just before his soundtrack to Amelie became an international success. Naturally, it soon achieved collectors’ item status. It’s a live album recorded in 1998 for radio at the National Theatre of Brittany, in Rennes. It showcases earlier & new material, plus some special one-offs and features collaborations with the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon on 2 tracks, as well as a number of established French indie rock performers, including Dominique A., Francoiz Breut, Bertrand Cantat (of Black Desire), Mathieu Boogaerts, and the bands Les Têtes Raides and The Married Monk (who also appeared on 1999's more rock-oriented album Tout Est Calme.
Yann Tiersen is a Breton-born, Paris-based multi-instrumentalist & composer who combines influences of French Folk, Cafe Musette, Pop & Rock and minimalist classical to produce his own distinctive and successful hybrid style. He has released 11 albums including the soundtracks to Amelie and Good Bye Lenin!, and a collaboration album with US rock, singer-songwriter Shannon Wright.
