The Harry Lime Theme was one of the big, surprise hits of the late 40’s & early 50’s, famously used as the theme music for the 1949 film The Third Man - regularly voted one of the greatest movies ever made. Along with the whole movie score, it was played and composed by Anton Karas, a previously obscure Austrian zither player, who by completely fortuitous chance was heard in a Viennese tavern by the film’s director Carol Reed. The single sold more than half a million copies in the first month of release in the UK, and went on to top the ‘charts’ in the US, as well. It turned Karas from a poor working man into a wealthy one. This release includes all the original film music, interspersed with film dialogue, full notes and a bonus track.
