"In 1942, in the cafes of Oran, his native town, he enjoyed the skill of the pianists of the US army. In 47, he played a kind of Arab-Andalucian genre that started to be called raļ, mixed with jazz and mambo. Since then, he has carried on with this singular style which is his own, the "pianoriental", playing in the Jewish cabarets or marriages in France and accompanying his longlasting Algerian accomplice, Lili Boniche.
