A contemporary of Guridi (CLAVES CD 50-9709) and Usandizaga (CD 50-9814), Isasi studied in Berlin with Engelbert Humperdinck, so that the gorgeous post-romantic, large-orchestra sounds produced on this CD by the Basque National Orchestra, ironically, owe more to Wagner and Richard Strauss, than to the composer's Basque origins. Luscious listening, though!
