| TheOvimbundu are a Bantu-speaking people from the central highlands of today'sAngola, who suffered a 20 year long civil war through the 1980's & 90s.,having in the past been a Portugese colony, with vast coffee plantations. Theserecordings were made between 1971 and 1972 and document various examples oftraditional music that are rapidly disappearing, with the death of oldermusicians: all manner of songs with accompaniment from drums, guitars, thumbpiano, rattles, bowed instruments, xylophones, mouth bows, recorder-flutes, anda host of other traditional items. |
