This recording from 1999 is of the first-everperformance of Martin Scherber's 3rd Symphony. Scherber was a complete loner, who believed that his compositions werecreated through, rather than by, him, as a result of intense and disciplinedmeditation. The results are veryreminiscent of Bruckner, but without the stops and starts. He did not want his symphonies publishedbefore his death, which came tragically early after he was knocked down by adrunk driver in 1971. His music offersrich rewards to the enquiring listener.
