The original success and the enormous, enduring reputation of Carol Reed's 1949 film "The Third Man" has ensured that the Austrian virtuoso musician, Anton Karas, is forever seemingly the only name associated with the European Zither. (that eliminates Shirley Abacair)

Karas had studied and played the instrument in Vienna from the age of 12. At the age of 43, he was 'discovered' by Carol Reed, and following the film's reception, appeared all over Europe plus a 32 week tour of the United States. In 1952, he opened a Wine Garden in Vienna, where he regularly performed over the years, until his death in 1985.

Here at last is a whole double album of material by the Austrian zither master. It, of course, includes the ever-striking Third Man theme and incidental music, but, for once, there's a whole lot more too !
