It is likely that Gasparo Zanetti didnot actually compose the music on this CD, which seems to have a renaissanceflavour, but simply collected it together as a kind of primer of Italian dance,in rather the same way as Michael Praetorius' 'Terpsichore', published in 1612,became the 'reference' work for French dance in the 17th century. Whatever the scholarly details, the resultsare most entertaining in these (mostly) world première recordings fromChristian Mendoze and his merry band.
