Bill Le Sage is one of the great unsung figures of the UK jazz history: tutored by Lennie Tristano in the 40's, pianist & founder member of The Johnny Dankworth Seven in 1950; moving onto vibes, he worked in groups led by Tony Kinsey & Ronnie Ross and went on to back some of the biggest names in jazz, including Billie Holiday, Anita O'Day, Dizzie Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Sonny Stitt, Cleo Laine, etc. He won the Melody Maker Jazz Poll vibes category for 20 years in a row.

Ironically, Bill Le Sage died , aged 74, in October 2001, as his latest album "Be-Bop 2000" on the Marbil label, received a host of critical praise, including Observer CD of the Week. This equally acclaimed album (Sunday Observer CD of The Week) was recorded a year before with relative youngsters, but veterans, of UK jazz - Phil Lee on guitar and Alec Dankworth on bass. They present inventive, modern Be Bop interpretations of some unusual choices of material, bringing to mind the innovative late 40's Red Norvo trio, featuring Tal Farlow & Charles Mingus.

"The Right Vibes" has recently been voted third Best New CD in the Hamlet British Jazz Awards 2002.
