He wasvocalist in the Ernie Fields Orch in the late 20's, before forming TheSolid Senders in the mid-30's. In 1945 they recorded "R.M. Blues"9included here) which became a big hit - one of the first R&B hits whichsignalled the end of the big bands. Itwas the Specialty labels first hit, and he stayed with them for the next10 years, enjoying many other successes.
