"Time Displaced" is acclaimed UK saxophonist Andy Panayi's follow up to his first Mainstem album "WHOOeeee!" (MCD 0023) released last year. On this outing, however, he mainly displays his prowess as a jazz flautist, apart from 3 tracks with his 'Septet Plus' Band when he plays some alto, tenor & baritone.

The majority of tracks on the album, a mixture of Panayi originals and jazz standards, are split between a Quartet & Quintet, featuring the cream of young UK jazz talent, including pianists Dave Newton & Gareth Williams, drummers Steve Brown & Ian Thomas, bassists Laurence Cottle & Mark Hodgson and guitarist Phil Robson. The Septet Band adds Pat White on trumpet and Mark Nightingale on trombone.

Panayi moves happily between contemporary jazz funk and West Coast mainstream and (as a big admirer of Mulligan and Brookmeyer) shows his ability as an arranger of modern jazz with the augmented line-up. Over the years, he has worked with many jazz headliners including: Louie Bellson, Abdullah Ibrahim, Stan Tracey, Alec Dankworth, and the BBC Radio Big Band.
