Bill Evans was, undeniably, one of the greatest pianists in the history of jazz, but it has often overshadowed his equally enviable skills as a composer. This superb album aims to help redress that imbalance.

The conducting and most of the arrangements are in the hands of Chicago-born pianist, Jim McNeely, who learnt his trade working with Stan Getz, Joe Henderson, Phil Woods and especially in this context, with Thad Jones - Mel Lewis Band, one of the very best post-war big bands.

The band here, the Danish Radio Jazz Orchestra, is also generally regarded as one of the today's top jazz big bands. So, with fabulous material, a top arranger and a cracking band this album would be hard put to disappoint - and it doesn't: great soloing all round, a crystal clear recording and the sort of thoughtful, spacious, adventurous arrangements that Bill Evans himself might well have created and certainly would have approved of.
