Pianist Butch Lacy is one ofthe best-kept secrets in jazz. Born in1947, in RichmondVirginia, he has recorded with ChetBaker, Lee Konitz, Red Rodney, Gary Bartz, Bobby Shew, and manyScandinavian players, having lived in Denmark for the past 20 years. He was accompanist to Sarah Vaughan in1980 and 1982. This is, surprisingly,his first recording under his own name, and deserves to receive high praise.It's a lovely rolling, reflective album of solo piano: unadorned but complex,dreamy but intimate, robust yet delicate.; with very individual reworkings of McCoyTyner, Wayne Shorter, one original and even well-trodden material like "Body& Soul", "Summertime" and "Willow Weep for Me". There is also a booklet ofbeautiful landscape photgraphy.
