A new compilation of rare and unissued tracks by the celebrated Cuban pianist, Chucho Valdes, founder member in 1973 of the seminal modern Cuban jazz group, Irakere, and son of the legendary pianist-bandleader Bebo Valdes.

Thirteen tracks on this disc were recorded in 1970: 11 of them with the all star trio of Orlando "Cachaito" Lopez, future key member of the Buena Vista Social Club, and Enrique Pla, the original Irakere drummer; plus 2 piano solos. Then there is a 1982 track with Jose Luis Cortes & German Velazco on flutes & Carlos del Puerto on bass; plus 6 further tracks of solo piano from 1986. All tracks are studio recordings made in Havana.

On these 20 pieces, Chucho Valdes not only demonstrates his technical piano mastery but his special ability to take the son, rumba and bolero traditions of his home country and fuse them with jazz, blues, bossa nova, popular music and even a touch of classical. He appeared at the Royal Festival Hall as part of the London Jazz Festival.
