This single, mid-price CD gathers together all the tracks from the legendary 1952 all-star studio session featuring the great Lester Young with the Oscar Peterson Trio, which then included guitarist Barney Kessell and Ray Brown on bass, augmented to a quartet on this occasion by J.C. Heard on drums. All are on spendid form, with Lester even taking a bizarre vocal on "It takes Two To Tango", of which there is also a rare alternate take added.

Norman Granz had 'discovered' Oscar Peterson in 1949 (although he had already recorded in Canada) and signed him to his Verve label. Peterson was recorded in 1950 on a series of duets with either Ray Brown or Major Holley on bass; his version of "Tenderly" became a hit, and he became a household name in 1952 when he formed this trio with guitarist Barney Kessel and Brown.

Although many claim that Lester Young's playing never recovered from his wartime experiences, he was still playing wonderfully in the late 40's and early 50's, with if anything, greater emotional depth but within a few years heavy drinking and mental instability began to seriously undermine his health. He died in 1959.
