An inventive, rewarding album of guitar-piano duets, directly in the tradition of the famous Bill Evans-Jim Hall collaborations in the early 60's. John Abercrombie and Andy Laverne, both with long, illustrious careers themselves, have been exploring the duet form at regular intervals since the late 60's. Their previous duet album on SteepleChase was "Nosmo King", released in 1994.
New Yorker John Abercrombie is one of the most influential acoustic and electric guitarists of the 1970s and early '80s; his recordings for ECM helped define the label's progressive chamber jazz reputation. He has worked and recorded with a wide variety of musicians including: Chico Hamilton, Gil Evans, Billy Cobham, Kenny Wheeler, Johnny Smith, etc, etc.
Andy Laverne, also New York born, studied with Bill Evans. He was pianist-composer-arranger for Woody Herman in the mid 70's and for Stan Getz in the late 70's. His vast list of performance and recording credits include work with Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Sinatra, Chick Corea, Lee Konitz, Mel Torme, Lionel Hampton, Bob Brookmeyer, Joe Lovano, Sonny Stitt, etc, etc.
