1955/56 recordings showcasing the talents of two of the most heralded trumpet players of the swing era, whose reputations were as sidemen rather than bandleaders.At the time 'Sweets' Edison's honeyed muted tone was almost ubiquitous on the popular albums of the day by Sinatra, Basie, Ella Fitzgerald etc and on these sessions he leads a 12 piece band which includes Jimmy Rowles and Benny Carter.The contrasting style of Shavers, long time soloist with Tommy Dorsey, is featured on the second part of the CD where, amongst other top flight musicians, Coleman Hawkins and Billy Butterfield contribute to a highly swinging, improvisational set.
