Maria Riccarda Wesseling (mez.), Nouvel Ensemble Contemporain cond. Pierre-Alain Monot.
An interesting and generous programme of orchestral songs, by 4 composers working in Vienna at the turn of the 19th century. All the works have been arranged (in the case of the excerpt from 'Gurrelieder', by the composer himself) for chamber orchestra, and this gives us every opportunity to appreciate the superb musicianship and beautiful voice of young Swiss mezzo Maria Riccarda Wesseling, who makes her debut recording with this disc. Definitely worth investigation! |
