Quatuor Olifant (François Cagnon, Michel Coquart, Jean-Pierre Saint-Dizier, Lionel Surin -horns).
It may be no surprise to horn players, to discover the amount of music for horn quartet which has been written by French 20th century composers - but to the rest of us, I suspect that it's pretty amazing! All gain, too, because the music is by turns mellifluous or boisterous, and always very listenable. Only the works by Dubois and Françaix are otherwise available - so brass fans need not hesitate to buy this outstanding CD. |
