Music to dance to or just cry into your beer to….played in taverns and roadhouses throughout the Southern states in the post war period. Songs of adultery, hard liquor and plain old heartache set to a bass-driven backbeat which changed the face of country music and helped kick start the rock and roll phenomenon. (See picture of Faron Young with cowlick, on his knees making love to the microphone). Many of these recording artists became big stars (witness Webb Pierce’s guitar shaped swimming pool and jewel encrusted Cadillac) but they all left their mark on a musical style, shaped in Texas dancehalls, which migrated to the barroom jukeboxes of Northern cities. The usual high quality presentation from Frémeaux.
