Excellently remastered edition, with original cover art, of these famous sessions recorded by Eric Dolphy in mid-1963, in New York with producer Alan Douglas, the fruits of which were issued on small labels as the LPs "Conversations" and "Iron Man". They are both classic, essential Dolphy albums that stand as some of his finest work, paving the way for "Out to Lunch", the following year.
There are 3 Dolphy originals: "Iron Man", "Burning Spear," and "Mandrake" all with melodic under-pinning, over-laid with Dolphy's trademark wide interval leaps and playful sense of dissonance. Then there are two superb, meditative duets with Richard Davis : Ellington's "Come Sunday" on bass clarinet and Jaki Byard's "Ode to C.P." Fine backing from Bobby Hutcherson, Woody Shaw, Prince Lasha, Sonny Simmons and Clifford Jordan.
