Steve Lacy died in June after a lifetime of musical exploration. Responsible for rescuing the soprano sax from obscurity in the early 50s....these recordings made in 1956 during a period when he was regularly playing attacking avant-garde jazz with pianist Cecil Taylor.
Two sets of sessions here...one under the leadership of Tom Stewart with Neal Hefti arrangements, the other recorded under bassist Whitey Mitchell's name (his only album).
