Cat No UP01-04

Unknown Public 01-04 volume one is an 80-page CD-book retrospective, drawn from the first four issues of audio journal Unknown Public (UP). The UP boxes were originally available on subscription, by mail order only, and these rare issues are now out of print. The CD-sized format of the new issue brings Unknown Public to UK record stores for the first time.

The beautifully produced book, designed by Marcus Ainley, includes reprints of short essays by Sam Richards, Dave Heath, Clive Bell, Neil Ardley and John White, plus poems by Billy Jenkins and Pauline Stainer and artwork by Tomato, Unknown Public's original designers. Roger Thomas, journalist, publisher and an early UP subscriber, contributes an overview of the UP project.

The 17-track CD includes a selection of stunning work from the first four issues.

UP editor John L. Walters is a former bandleader, composer and record producer, editor of Eye, and a weekly music columnist for the Guardian Friday Review, On the edge.
