Hampton Hawes was a hard swinging pianist who brought his own interpretations to the dominant Bud Powell style. A fixture on the '50s Los Angeles scene, he was a regular at the Lighthouse and the small Haig club. Double CD documents his live and studio work over five year period which was interrupted by army service.
