This is a successful Brecht/Weil-esque Brazilian musical set in World War II, and based on a story and songs originally written by Chico Buarque de Hollanda in 1978, with more recent additions. The original album had led to a film version in 1985. The musical with it's backdrop of prostitutes, pimps, and low-life criminals has been playing to packed houses in Rio for the past 18 months.
