Apart fromhis masterpiece, the ballet 'Giselle', the virtuoso overture to 'Si j'étaisRoi' is one of very few pieces by Adolphe Adam which could claim to bewell-known nowadays - an injustice, as this 1960 recording of the complete workshows. Re-issued in ACCORD's 'Opérette'series, Adam's work is actually more a full-scale comic opera, beautifully presentedin this unique recording with a French cast under Richard Blareau.
