This is a wonderfully played, high quality recording of standards in the evocative Piano Bar tradition. Simon Schott was born in Munich in 1917. After the Second World War he remained in Paris, where he piano in Montmartre night clubs. He was discovered and immediately employed by Harry McElhone, the owner of the then world-famous Harry's New York Bar in Paris, where he played for a number of years to audiences comprised of the rich & famous : Rita Hayworth, Humphrey Bogart, Coco Chanel, Ernest Hemingway, John Steinbeck, Maurice Chevalier, Jean-Paul Satre, Christian Dior, The Duke of Windsor, The Rothchilds... they were all regular customers. He later lived & worked for two years in London, before returning to Munich.
For the past twenty years and more, he has played piano from 5 to 8 o'clock, all year round in the famous Kempinski Hotel in Munich. The release of this album in Germany and the subsequent media coverage has turned him into a national star (at 88!) and made the hotel incredibly popular. Simon Scott is also an author of fiction, with more than 20 books published.
