Aside from a few breakthrough instances, the Jamaican music scene is not generally known as a breeding ground for female talent. Millie Small's worldwide hit 'My boy lollipop' and the I Three trio of Rita Marley, Marcia Griffiths and Judy Mowatt are high flying examples, which are otherwise too rare. Until now, vocal trios have most often been dominated by men.
French producer Pierre Simonin, whilst preparing a documentary on Jamaican music, became the catalyst for the forming of a new female trio, the Kingston Ladies. Pam Hall was an obvious start, as a pillar of talent among backing vocalists; she then sourced Leba Hibbert, daughter of Frederic Toots Hibbert. Then, to add some young zest, Keisha Patterson was brought in, a sitcom star and backing singer for Buju Banton.
Get a fresh attitude from the Kingston Ladies.
