A valuable 4-disc survey of the complete chamber music and works for piano by Hanns Eisler, a Schoenberg pupil who embraced the revolutionary spirit of the Weimar republic, but (as a Jew) fled Hitler, arriving in the USA where 10 years later (as a Communist) he was forced to emigrate once more, finally, to East Germany. These recordings were made between 1985 and 1991, and several items are otherwise unavailable. |
