After more than 15 years together, the band amazingly still consists of the same 6 core members - led by the main duo of Akhenaton and Surik’n (plus Freeman, who has also has he own solo outings) they have maintained an incredibly high level of songwriting, lyric invention and humanitarian commitment - they even managed to get Beyonce to sing a socially aware message on “Bienvenue, Remix”. From their home city of Marseilles, IAM have always used the full range of Mediterranean musical influences and have become spokesmen for African immigrants, the underprivileged, left-wing political groups, etc.
