This fifth volume of the complete recordings of Lightnin' Hopkins resumes with the remainder of the Bihari recordings which appeared on RPM, Crown, Kent and United, the sole Specialty session, and the first tracks cut for Bob Shad's Sittin' In With/Jax labels in 1951. It continues the stark tradition of Hopkins solitary blues performances, with only the Shad recordings introducing the unobtrusive addition of a string bass player, while the RPM cut, “Candy Kitchen”, affords the rare (and first) opportunity to hear Lightnin' Hopkins accompany himself at the piano.
