This is one of those crossover albums which will not perfectly fit into either category. It could go equally well in soundtracks, its literal home, and World Music, where it has its heart and soul. Here’s the story:

Philippe Eidel is a multi-instrumentalist and producer with a background of messing about with all varieties of music, from World to Folk and back via Baroque. A versatile musical chameleon of great skill, many of whose projects have passed through the Discovery Records vaults.

The Imuhar project was originally released in 1997 on Sony France, and it came right at the beginning of the Desert Blues attraction. It is still very much a relevant musical document in its own right, a collaboration between Philippe Eidel and Touareg musicians and singers. The result is a very harmonious World Music album.
