· Directed by Dick Fontaine, this amazing film shows Ornette in Paris (backed by his regular 1966 trio of David Izenzon and Charles Moffett), while recording the soundtrack for the Belgian film titled Who’s Crazy?.
· Besides showing the trio playing two complete extended tunes, it shows Ornette & trio rehearsing and talking about music. Ornette is heard playing piano and Charles Moffett displays his abilities with the xylophone.
· This film includes a memorable performance of Ornette’s Sadness (complete and uninterrupted - from David Izenzon’s bowed introduction to the end). One of the best filmed jazz performances I have ever seen. ***** Martin Williams (Jazz Times)
· As a bonus, this DVD also contains Dick Fontaine’s film from the following year titled Sound?? The movie presents another jazz iconoclast, multi reedman Roland Kirk, playing collective improvisations, visiting a Zoo and performing a blues and the tune A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square. Avant-garde composer John Cage is also featured here, speculating about silence and sound.
· Total Time: 55 MIN. - B&W Mono - All Regions : double sided DVD with PAL and NTSC System
