| If you are not familiar with viola concertos by J.C. Bach and Handel, worry not, they are fakes, written (very well!) by French composer-conductor Henri Casadesus in the early 20th century! The concertos by Stamitz and Hoffmeister are authentic, though rarely recorded, and Michel Michalakakos’s excellent playing of music both genuine and ersatz makes this a generously-filled and highly intriguing disc, well worth hearing. |
