After early work as a piano player in Memphis with both BB King and Bobby Bland, Johnny Ace hit paydirt as a solo act in 1952/53 and had several hits with bluesy, romantic ballads. The strange Russian roulette shooting incident which caused his death on Christmas Eve 1954 lent him a legendary aura…the resulting posthumous hit Pledging My Love is still a popular oldie in America and has been covered by numerous other artists.
