One of the forgotten names of this era of black popular music….Larry Darnell was a well known performer from the sophisticated blues shouter school who notched up some impressive sales for Regal Records. He started as a teenage dancer with a travelling burlesque show, “Irwin C. Miller’s Brownskin Models”, then took up a singing residency at New Orleans’ Dew Drop Inn before topping the Billboard R & B charts (Christmas 1949) with For You My Love, the opening track on this selection, which includes many other songs now issued for the first time on CD.
