Includes the outstanding John Lewis albums: “Grand Encounter” and “The Modern Jazz Sextet” both recorded in 1956. The former in Los Angeles, boasting a lineup of Jim Hall, Bill Perkins, Percy Heath, and Chico Hamilton - with Lewis’s inimitable arrangements.

The latter session, recorded in New York, features a legendary reunion between Lewis, Sonny Stitt and Dizzy Gillespie, who performed together in Dizzy’s celebrated 1940s big band. “The Modern Jazz Sextet” also includes the participation of Skeeter Best, Percy Heath and Charlie Persip as well as original compositions by Gillespie and Lewis’s arrangements. Two essential albums.
