This mid-price CD Includes the complete original LPs : “Third Dimension” (also known as “Triple Threat”) and “Introducing Roland Kirk”. The first of these only previously available on limited edition in Japan, was recorded in New York, November 9, 1956 and was Roland Kirk’s first groundbreaking recording as leader. He is accompanied by Jimmy Madison, Carl Pruitt and Henry “Hank” Duncan, and the quartet’s repertoire is made up primarily of Kirk’ original compositions.

Kirk’s second date as a leader, confusingly issued as “Introducing Roland Kirk”, was recorded in Chicago on June 7, 1960 – and features a quintet with Ira Sullivan on trumpet and tenor sax and showcases Kirk’s inimitable skills as an improviser and composer. Two fine early outings by the unique innovator and musical virtuoso.
