Important archive recordings of Nielsen symphonies, and his opera ‘Saul and David’, all conducted by Tor Mann, the Swede who (as the CD title suggests) did much to bring the Danish composer’s music to wider notice during his days as conductor of Swedish Radio’s orchestras during the 1940s and 1950s. Despite technical shortcomings, there is much pleasure to be gained from Mann’s lively and warm-hearted performances.
