Jean-Louis Agobet is not yet 40, and all the works on this enterprising disc received their first performances in the present century. Very contemporary, then, but not afraid to re-invent the concerto form, as we see in ‘Feuermann’, which was written for Steven Isserlis, and named when Agobet discovered that the English virtuoso’s cello is the Stradivarius once owned by his illustrious Austrian predecessor, Emmanuel Feuermann.
