Though Eddie Chamblee most frequently headed his own small combos, at the time of these recordings he had just spent three years in the coveted lead tenor sax spot in the Lionel Hampton band. This CD brings together two excellent Chicago sessions from 1957/58, fronting a high class septet that had previously been Dinah Washinton’s backing group.(Chamblee was, briefly, her fifth husband). These are no mere studio blowing sessions but effective and exciting arrangements executed with enormous precision and swing.
