“For his intense personal expression, brilliant technical mastery and overpowering stage presence” reads the judges’ citation for Johan Bridger, when he won the Soloist’s Prize from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2004. The making of this CD was a part of his prize, and he has taken the opportunity to put together an exciting programme including first recordings by four contemporary composers, two of whom (Broström and Storm) dedicated their pieces to Bridger. Joseph Schwantner’s ‘Velocities’ has also been recorded by Evelyn Glennie, so percussion enthusiasts can make comparisons.
