The Mezzanine de l’Alcazar is Terence Conran’s cool dive in the St.Germain des Prés area of Paris, a small but artistically influential enclave of the Quartier Latin.
The venue has been putting out compilation sets, created by its own in-house DJs and reflective of its atmosphere, for the past few years, and these collections have aroused interest in this country, much in the same way as its label stablemate Hôtel Coastes has done.
Here, then, is volume 4. With Emmanuel S at the controls on the first CD and the less well-known Michael Canitrot taking charge of the second disc, the mix is an edge-cutting snapshot of Parisian craft.
This time, too, there is a bonus DVD of the kind of art we readily associate with the French Touch in video manipulation; 5 videos from different artists, a result of the avant garde cinema schools so prevalent in Paris.
