Lulendo is one of the many gifted African musicians living in France. Forced by the civil war to flee Angola many years ago, much of his music is inspired by an exile’s love of his homeland. Lulendo, a former backing singer with Papa Wemba, has a beautiful high tenor voice and plays the likembe, a melodic percussive instrument. An exciting blend of polyphony, percussion and the instrumental work of French musicians…..Angola even features pedal steel on one track, giving the song Maman the haunting quality of a sad country song.Sadness and sorrow are central themes of the songs on the album, regret for homeland and the strife which happened there.
