This ninth volume in CLAVES’s fascinating series devoted to Basque music reveals a second unknown 20th century priest/composer (the first was Aita Donostia, on 50-2305). The selection of pieces given world-première recordings on this 2-CD set – very few of a sacred nature – show Aita Medina, who spent his working life in Argentina and the USA, to be a versatile composer who could produce attractive music, often based on his Basque origins, for any occasion. Long friendship with the guitar-playing Los Romeros family produced many such works, including the super ‘Basque Concerto’ recorded here.
