Jan Dussek was quite a character: friendly with Haydn in London, he married the daughter of a music publisher, then had to flee the country when the firm went bankrupt! His piano sonatas seem to be in perpetual motion, reflecting perhaps his turbulent life, but they offer great vitality and variety. Hungarian pianist Irčne Polya’s generous programme offers one hitherto unrecorded sonata (Op. 23) and two more extensive works, played on a Fazioli instrument.
