28 electronic re-interpretations of traditional Japanese music.
Nippon Connection – Exchanging Tracks is an ambitious and exceptional project, making the effort to blend the best of two worlds: traditional Zen music from the land of the rising sun on the one hand, and modern electronic music from the western hemisphere on the other. The compilation is the result of the cooperation between the Frankfurt based label Das Modular and Nippon Connection, the largest Japanese film festival in Europe. The Japanese traditionals, played by the outstanding Shingetsu Ensemble were recorded and then given to renowned remixers from all over the world to be re-interpreted. The artists were encouraged to create personal soundtracks to the pictures that came to their minds, while listening to the atmospheric originals. The Nippon Connection – Exchanging Tracks compilation features the resulting 28 songs as well as the original recordings on 3 CDs. Each track was exclusively produced for the project. In addition to the CDs, the Nippon Connection Vinyl EP will be available. It features first class remixes from Slope, Titonton Duvanté, Beanfield and Fabrice Lig.
In addition to the 3 CDs the anthology provides an extraordinary CD case, which features a high quality flipbook and a magnetic lock. The compilation consistently connects a wide range of electronic music styles, such as House, Electronic Jazz, Detroit Techno, Electronica, Drum and Bass and instrumental Hip-Hop. To ensure a musical flow the three CDs are categorised as follows :
CD1 Kigen (Japanese for origin) includes the originals CD2 Shikake (Japanese for attack) contains the Club tracks, and CD3 Moko So (Japanese for meditation) features the listening tracks
