| Classic FM features programmes of ‘smooth music’ - presumably in order to run no risk of surprising their audience into switching off – but listeners need have no fear that this sequence of 10 slow movements will lull them to sleep, as there is considerable variety, as well as much wonderful music, from the century which linked Haydn and Beethoven to Brahms and Dvořák. Beautiful and affectionate playing from the Burlington Trio makes this disc a must-buy, for any non-specialist lover of the piano trio format. |
